We feel students learn best in a positive learning environment. Instructors recognize that not all children learn in the same way. Instruction is taught at each student’s current academic level and is delivered in a way that best matches how they learn.

Students of all beliefs are welcome. Through daily prayer and daily devotions, students are expected to grow and claim the life resources available through faith in God and the Bible. It is a desire that each student comes to know the love and grace of Jesus Christ and share them with others. All students are expected to participate in Chapel and a variety of community service projects.

Achievers’ is fully accredited through The International Christian Accrediting Association (ICAA). ICAA is an affiliate of the Oral Roberts University Educational Fellowship, which is a non-profit, interdenominational fellowship of Christian schools established to help members accomplish goals and to assist in the advancement of Christian education. The State of Texas accepts ICAA accreditation.

We believe a multi-sensory approach to learning can positively impact writing, reading and spelling skills, and it is used every day at Achievers’. Writing is taught as a practical life skill, at the student’s perceived level. Keyboarding skills are integrated with writing. Students are provided opportunities to continuously improve their reading skills through daily reading, guided reading and by practicing kinesthetic learning strategies (including the use of clay). Informal reading inventories are used to determine levels of reading and progress. Students continue to work on specific reading skills, at their perceived level, through the twelfth grade.

Math materials are used to assist students to learn basic math skills in a sequential, step-by-step manner which is structured for positive results. Achievers’ presents a balanced approach with opportunities to use manipulatives, then experience guided and independent practice. Consumer math allows students to apply math to real life situations. Students are given incremental math instruction, with time to practice, process and apply their new skills. Students move from the concrete, to the pictorial, to the abstract. The results can be immediate, measurable and long lasting.

Our active Social Studies and Science programs utilize a variety of resources and are not taught straight out of a textbook. Rather than rote memorization, students are encouraged to examine, analyze and synthesize material through numerous approaches. Using a variety of primary sources – such as historical photographs, journal entries and artifacts – provides students with more personal contact to enrich learning. Because of our history-rich city, students also participate in field trips to sites that link their learning to their lives. Courses offered include: American History, American Government, Economics, World History and Applied Sciences.

Students participate in daily chapel lessons which are led by Staff and guest speakers. Emphasis is placed on building familiarity with Biblical principles and developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. All students also are expected to participate in a variety of community service projects through Achievers’, putting faith into practical action.

Acquiring independent living skills is another goal of the Achievers’ School philosophy. Pre-vocational skills classes and job internships expose students to a variety of on and off-site work settings and allow them to develop basic skills to help them experience success in the workplace. A job coach accompanies students to work sites to provide guidance and feedback. Courses offered include: Skills for Success (SFS) Vocational Prep, SFS I, SFS II, and SFS III.

Physical education is offered in a non-traditional program which accommodates individual students’ needs and abilities. Activities focus on teaching good sportsmanship and appropriate game skills through basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball and fitness stations. This program benefits able-bodied students as well as those with certain limitations. Personal fitness activities and participation are emphasized.

Students are invited to participate in Art Club and have opportunities to experience a variety of art media, including: stained glass; sculpture; drawing; and painting. Guest artists from the community come periodically to work with Art Club projects. Students also produce a Yearbook.
